Alaska Airlines on Wednesday announced the largest fleet order in its history, committing to 105 Boeing 737-10 aircraft and five additional Boeing 787 widebody jets, as the carrier positions itself for long-term growth and international expansion.

The airline said the deal also includes purchase rights for a further 35 737-10 aircraft, securing key delivery slots and extending its aircraft delivery stream through 2035. With the new agreement, Alaska’s total order book with Boeing rises to 245 aircraft, in addition to the 94 Boeing 737 MAX jets currently in service.

Alaska Air Group Chief Executive Officer Ben Minicucci said the order is a major step in executing the airline’s “Alaska Accelerate” strategic plan.

“This fleet investment builds on the strong foundation Alaska has created to support steady, scalable, and sustained growth,” Minicucci said in a statement. “These planes will fuel our expansion to more destinations across the globe and ensure our guests travel aboard the newest, most fuel-efficient, and state-of-the-art aircraft.”

The 737-10 aircraft will be used for both growth and replacement of older 737 models, helping Alaska maintain one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in the industry. The airline already operates 737-8 and 737-9 aircraft and said it retains flexibility to adjust the specific MAX variant if needed.

The five additional Boeing 787 aircraft, expected to be delivered as the larger 787-10 variant, will support Alaska’s long-haul ambitions. The order brings the airline’s firm future 787 fleet to 17 aircraft, with five already in operation. Alaska plans to use the widebody jets to serve at least 12 long-haul international destinations from Seattle by 2030.

Alaska Air Group currently operates a fleet of 413 aircraft across its carriers. The company said the new orders will expand the fleet to more than 475 aircraft by 2030 and more than 550 aircraft by 2035.

To mark the announcement, Alaska Airlines, Boeing, and the US Department of Transportation were set to join employees and customers in Seattle on Wednesday to celebrate the order and unveil the airline’s first Boeing 787-9 painted in Alaska’s new global livery.

The design, inspired by the Aurora Borealis, features deep midnight blues and emerald greens and took nearly 1,000 hours over 13 days to complete using a new painting technique.

The order underscores Alaska Airlines’ deepening partnership with Boeing, both companies based in the US Pacific Northwest, and reflects the carrier’s confidence in sustained demand growth over the next decade.
