Indian Air Force microlight aircraft made an emergency
landing after crashing into a pond. Both pilots escaped without injuries after
local residents rescued them within minutes.
Incident occurred in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday around
12.15 pm when the lightweight aircraft was forced to land under emergency
conditions near KP Ground. Aircraft ended up submerged in a nearby pond,
triggering brief panic among residents who rushed to the spot.
Eyewitnesses told media that they heard a loud sound and ran
outside to see the aircraft in the pond. With coordinated effort, residents
pulled the two pilots to safety before emergency services arrived. One local told
media that people were prepared to break the aircraft's canopy, if necessary,
but pilots were safely evacuated before it became necessary.
Authorities confirmed media that there was no damage to
nearby houses and no civilian injuries. Police and administrative officials
reached the site soon after and cordoned off the area to manage crowds.
Aircraft was later secured, and a preliminary enquiry has
been initiated to determine the cause of the emergency landing. Microlight
aircraft are typically used by IAF for training, surveillance and
familiarisation flights. These lightweight planes are designed for low-altitude
operations.
Local residents played a crucial role in the rescue by
acting swiftly before official emergency services could reach the location.
Officials praised the coordinated response that prevented any casualties in the
incident.
