Aircraft lessor Avolon has finalised an order for 140 Boeing 737-10 jets, which Boeing and Avolon described as the largest 737 MAX order ever placed by a lessor, the companies said on Wednesday.
The order raises Avolon’s backlog of unfilled 737 MAX orders to more than 240 aircraft, according to the announcement. The release gave no price or delivery schedule.
Andy Cronin, Avolon’s CEO, said the company sees strong demand for new-technology aircraft and described the 737-10 as “one of the most attractive aircraft in its class”.
He said the order strengthens Avolon’s long-term delivery pipeline and its ability to support airline growth and fleet renewal over the next decade.
Brad McMullen, Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, said Avolon’s growing 737 MAX portfolio lets its airline customers modernise fleets with aircraft that reduce emissions and operating costs.
He said Boeing is ready to support lessors that want to expand their single-aisle portfolios.
Boeing said lessors have placed firm orders for more than 230 737-10 jets in 2026, five times the lessor backlog for the largest 737 MAX variant at the end of 2025. Lessors have ordered more than 1,450 737 MAX aircraft in total, about 20 percent of Boeing’s backlog, it said.
The company also said the 737 family constitutes about 30 percent of all financed aircraft and that it expects passenger traffic to grow 4 percent a year over the next 20 years.
Boeing said the 737-10 can seat up to 230 passengers and has a range of 3,100 nautical miles (5,740 kilometres). It said the aircraft has the best per-seat economics of any single-aisle aircraft, which is Boeing’s own claim.
Avolon says it works with 138 airlines in 62 countries and has an owned, managed, and committed fleet of 1,092 aircraft as of September 30, 2026.
