In accordance with ICAO and national aviation security standards, Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi underwent a comprehensive airport security exercise on Monday to evaluate emergency response capabilities and improve interagency coordination.

According to a press release from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), the exercise, titled "Airport Security Exercise 2025," simulated a bomb threat on a chartered flight leaving from Jashore.

Coordinated emergency response measures were initiated when the airport manager contacted the Risk Advisory Group and activated the Emergency Operations Center after an anonymous caller alerted the control tower to the presence of an explosive on board.

CAAB, the Bangladesh Army, RAB, the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, APBn, Ansar, Rajshahi Medical College, Islami Medical College Hospital, the Fire Service, and Civil Defense were among the organizations involved in the exercise. Teams that took part rehearsed field-level crisis response, evacuation, coordination, and surveillance techniques.

As chief guest, CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq was present and watched the exercise.

In addition to helping identify operational gaps, he thanked all agencies for taking part and stated that these exercises "enhance effective coordination to ensure international standards in aviation security and passenger service."

He praised the team's effort and said he was sure the experience would help deal with any unexpected situation more quickly and effectively.

Air Commodore Md Asif Iqbal, Member (Security) of CAAB, served as Chief Coordinator, while Airport Manager Dilara Pervin acted as On-Scene Commander.

The CAAB Chairman commended all participating agencies for their professionalism and readiness and encouraged them to continue carrying out their duties with honesty, commitment, and a sense of national duty.

Media representatives, senior officials, representatives from participating organizations, and CAAB members S. M. Lablur Rahman (Administration) and Mohammad Nazmul Haque (Finance) were also in attendance.
