Delta Air Lines has chosen Airbus to deliver advanced in-flight connectivity across its fleet of 20 new A350-1000 aircraft.
The deal, announced April 14, 2026, makes Delta the first North American airline to select Airbus’ line-fit HBCplus solution. Passengers will soon enjoy fast, reliable internet from gate to gate on these long-haul jets.
Airbus is working closely with Delta and Hughes to install a multi-orbit connectivity system. The setup uses Airbus’s HBCplus hardware as the foundation and Hughes’ “Fusion” product for seamless service.
It combines different satellite networks, including low Earth orbit (LEO) links. For the LEO part, Airbus will handle post-delivery upgrades with an electronically steered array antenna. This ensures the system works perfectly without delaying aircraft deliveries.
Why This Matters for Passengers
Travelers on Delta’s A350-1000 flights can expect smooth streaming, video calls, and work-from-the-sky productivity. The high-bandwidth solution supports multiple devices at once. No more dropped connections during long flights over oceans or remote areas.
Delta’s Director of Cabin Programmes, Joseph Eddy, called the partnership “a natural fit” that already adds value to delivery schedules.
Hughes is equally excited. Reza Rasoulian, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Aviation Business Unit, said the Fusion technology will “elevate the passenger experience” and deliver reliable connectivity throughout every flight.
Stronger Operations and Future-Proof Design
Tim Sommer, Airbus Vice President and Head of the Connected Aircraft Programme, highlighted how connectivity now improves both passenger comfort and airline efficiency. “This project shows the strength of our long relationship with Delta,” he noted.
The two companies will also explore Airbus’s new HBCplus “modular” system. This upgrade allows up to two antennas and easy switches between satellite providers. Airlines can update their setup overnight during routine maintenance.
HBCplus itself is Airbus’s flexible high-bandwidth offering. It works as a factory-installed option or a quick retrofit on any Airbus aircraft. Airlines pick their preferred service provider while the terminal and radome are built into the plane from day one.
A Win for Delta’s Long-Haul Future
The A350-1000 is known for its quiet cabin, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort. Adding best-in-class connectivity makes these aircraft even more attractive for premium long-haul routes. Delta can now offer a consistent, high-speed experience that matches what travelers expect on the ground.
This partnership blends Airbus engineering expertise with Delta’s customer focus and Hughes’ satellite know-how. The result is a smarter, more connected flying experience that sets a new standard for North American carriers.
With 20 aircraft on order, Delta is investing in the future of air travel. Passengers boarding these A350-1000s will notice the difference immediately—faster Wi-Fi, fewer interruptions, and more enjoyable flights from takeoff to landing.
