50% discount for foreign wives at OMR 300; Arabic language
test compulsory for all
Oman has set citizenship application fees at OMR 600 (nearly
TK 1 lakh 91 thousand), making naturalisation accessible through a standardised
payment structure effective from 4th January 2026.
Minister of Interior Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Busaidi issued
Ministerial Decision No. 92/2014 under Royal Decree No. 38/2014, establishing
new charges for nationality services published in the Sultanate's Official
Gazette.
OMR 600 fee covers applications for Omani citizenship
through naturalisation, applying to all eligible foreign nationals seeking
permanent residency status. Same charge extends to minor children of Omani
women submitting citizenship requests, creating uniform pricing across primary
applicant categories.
Foreign women married to Omani nationals receive
preferential treatment with a reduced fee of OMR 300 (approximately TK 8,500).
However, applicants must fulfil stringent requirements including marriage
approval from the Ministry of Interior, minimum 10 years of marriage and
residence in Oman, having an Omani son with their husband, and maintaining
clean criminal records.
Authorities introduced OMR 200 (approximately TK 5,700)
charges for nationality withdrawal or relinquishment applications. Fee structure
aims to streamline administrative procedures while maintaining consistent
standards across the Sultanate.
Officials emphasised that citizenship eligibility criteria
remain unchanged despite new fee implementation. All applicants must submit
documents in Arabic and appear before the Department of Nationality Affairs for
mandatory tests, including Arabic language proficiency assessments.
Individuals seeking to restore previously renounced Omani
nationality face the same OMR 600 fee but must demonstrate permanent residence
in Oman for at least two years. Applicants must also provide documented proof
of renouncing their other nationality before restoration approval.
Widows and divorced spouses of Omani citizens can apply
under the OMR 600 standard rate, provided they meet nationality law
requirements. Department of Nationality Affairs will review all applications
for obtaining, renouncing or regaining citizenship status.
New fee schedule represents significant administrative
reform in Gulf citizenship policies, establishing clear financial parameters
for nationality services. Authorities confirmed the decision focuses
exclusively on application charges without modifying legal requirements or
eligibility conditions for Omani citizenship acquisition.
