US Embassy orders visa applicants to make social media profiles public

The United States Embassy in Dhaka on Friday (June 5, 2026) issued an advisory notice directing applicants for certain nonimmigrant visa categories to set all their social media profiles to "public."

The directive, posted on the embassy's verified Facebook page, applies to applicants seeking A-3, C-3 (domestic worker), G-5, H-3, and dependent H-4, K-1, K-2, K-3, Q, R-1, R-2, S, T, and U visas. The requirement has been in effect since March 30, 2026.

According to the notice, applicants are instructed to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media profiles to “public” in order to facilitate vetting necessary to establish their identity and admissibility to the United States.

The embassy stated that "every visa adjudication is a national security decision."

For additional details, the embassy recommended that individuals visit the official website.
