Germany's Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr Rüdiger Lotz, has warned that Bangladesh's decision on purchasing Airbus aircraft could affect bilateral commercial relations between the two nations.

Speaking at a Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) event at National Press Club on Wednesday, the Ambassador emphasised Germany's position as Bangladesh's most important business partner. He stressed that sustainable business relationships matter significantly for both countries.

"Certainly, it will. We are Bangladesh's most important business partner, and we want the continuity of the relationship that has existed so far to be maintained in bilateral relations as well," Dr Lotz said when asked whether the Airbus purchase would influence ties.

Ambassador acknowledged Bangladesh's sovereign right to decide but noted that every decision creates ripples in the overall environment. "As in personal or business life, every decision has some effect on the overall environment and attitude," he explained.

Dr Lotz praised Airbus products, calling them "one of the best choices" for expanding Bangladesh's aviation market. He linked the aircraft decision to ongoing GSP Plus discussions, stating that progress in such talks influences the overall environment surrounding Bangladesh's choices.

Ambassador also addressed visa processing challenges for Bangladeshi students wanting to study in Germany. He revealed that forged documents submitted by some applicants force visa officers to spend excessive time on verification, harming genuine students and limiting opportunities for everyone.

Germany aims to reduce student visa processing times but seeks cooperation from applicants to provide accurate information, Dr Lotz added.
