Eight Bangladeshi nationals were injured in a devastating fire at a hotel in New Delhi's Malviya Nagar area, with three of them in critical condition, the Bangladesh High Commission said on Thursday.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the mission said all eight injured Bangladeshis had been admitted to different hospitals in the Indian capital and were receiving treatment. It added that the High Commission was closely monitoring their condition in coordination with the relevant Indian authorities.
The fire, one of the deadliest in the area in recent years, killed 21 people and injured 28 others.
Among those killed were nine Indian nationals as well as foreign citizens from Mozambique, Liberia, Nigeria, and Uzbekistan, highlighting the multinational impact of the tragedy.
Hospital authorities have advised relatives and visitors to avoid direct physical contact with burn victims to reduce the risk of infection and support their recovery, the High Commission said.
The Bangladeshi mission reiterated its commitment to assisting the injured nationals and maintaining close contact with hospitals and local authorities to ensure they receive necessary medical care and support.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze, while emergency services continue relief and recovery efforts.
The blaze broke out on Wednesday in Malviya Nagar in the city’s south in a building that housed a restaurant on the ground floor and a hotel above.
The predominantly residential neighborhood, which is popular with students and young professionals, is tightly packed with shops, eateries, and small hotels.
