Bangladeshi injured as drones fell near Dubai airport

Bangladeshi national was among four airport staff injured after two drones fell near Dubai International Airport on Wednesday morning, authorities confirmed.


Incident left one Bangladeshi, two Ghanaian nationals and one Indian national injured, Gulf News reported. Bangladeshi and two Ghanaians sustained minor injuries while Indian national suffered moderate injuries. All received prompt medical attention.


Dubai authorities confirmed that air traffic at airport is operating normally despite incident. Dubai Airports, which operates Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport, said operations had partially resumed from 7th March after brief interruption.


Travellers have been advised not to travel to airports unless airlines confirm flights, as schedules may continue to change. Authorities have not disclosed details about drone ownership or cause of falling.


Earlier incident occurred on March 1 when a concourse at Dubai International Airport sustained minor damage in separate occurrence that was quickly contained. Emergency response teams were immediately deployed and handled situation in coordination with relevant authorities. Four staff members were injured in that incident and received immediate medical treatment.


Most terminals had already been cleared of passengers due to contingency plans during earlier incident. Airport authorities confirmed drone incidents are under investigation.


Dubai International Airport handled record 9 crore 52 lakh passengers last year, representing 3.1% increase compared to previous year. This marked busiest year in airport’s history and highest annual international passenger traffic recorded by any airport globally.


December was busiest month in airpor’s history with 87 lakh passengers, up 6.1% year on year. Fourth quarter was also busiest ever with 2 crore 51 lakh passengers, showing 5.9% increase from same period in 2024.
