Biman Bangladesh Airlines announced Monday that it will resume flights on the Dhaka-Sylhet-Manchester route from July 1, following the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage season, as the state carrier moves to restore services for Bangladeshi expatriates in Britain.
The national flag carrier said it would initially operate two weekly flights — on Saturdays and Tuesdays — connecting the Bangladeshi capital and the northeastern city of Sylhet with Manchester, a major hub for the British-Bangladeshi community.
The airline said the decision was taken in accordance with directives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism as part of broader government efforts to strengthen international air connectivity, a Biman press release said.
Under the published timetable, outbound flights will depart Dhaka at 10:55 am local time, with a stop in Sylhet at 12:50 pm, before arriving in Manchester at 10:55 pm local time.
Return services will depart Manchester at 9:00 pm, arriving in Sylhet the following day at 11:50 am and reaching Dhaka at 1:30 pm.
The route had been suspended since March 1, with Biman citing the need to maintain operational stability and optimise fleet utilisation during a period of adjusted scheduling.
The carrier said it expects the restored service to ease travel for Bangladeshi nationals living in the United Kingdom and improve passenger capacity on what it described as a key international sector.
Biman advised prospective travellers to contact the airline's sales centres, authorised travel agencies or its official website for bookings and further details.
