Coca-Cola Maldives has assured the Bangladesh High Commission that it will continue paying its Bangladeshi workers in US dollars, following a courtesy meeting between the company's chief executive and the Bangladesh envoy in the Maldives.

Milind Derasari, Chief Executive Officer of Coca-Cola Maldives, called on Bangladesh High Commissioner Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam at the High Commission's chancery building, according to a press release issued by the Bangladesh High Commission on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner underscored the importance of paying Bangladeshi workers' salaries in US dollars, enabling them to send remittances home through legal and secure channels while strengthening the financial security of their families, the release said.

In response, the Coca-Cola Maldives CEO said the company currently pays its Bangladeshi employees in US dollars and plans to continue the practice as far as possible in the future.

Coca-Cola Maldives authorities also praised the honesty, dedication, and professionalism of the Bangladeshi workers and expressed interest in hiring more Bangladeshi employees in the future through the planned expansion of its factory.

The meeting also touched on the welfare, rights, and employment opportunities of more than 200 Bangladeshi nationals currently working at Coca-Cola Maldives, as well as the broader expansion of economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the Maldives.

Discussions further covered recruitment of workers through Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL) to ensure safe and regular migration, protection of the rights and welfare of expatriate Bangladeshis, and strengthening trade, investment, and business cooperation between the two countries.

The Bangladesh High Commission said it continues to work tirelessly to ensure the welfare, dignity, and security of Bangladeshi expatriates in the Maldives, along with a safe and legal flow of remittances for their families.
