Two people killed in Essex plane crash

Two people have died after a two-seater plane crashed into a wheat field near Ongar, Essex, during a flight experience on Tuesday.

The aircraft took off from North Weald Airfield at around 12:30pm for what was expected to be a short flight before crashing less than eight miles away. Essex Police confirmed on Wednesday that both occupants died, though formal identification has yet to take place due to the complexity of the incident.

Police and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) are investigating the cause of the crash. Authorities said their priority is to determine what happened, support the victims' families, and thank witnesses who reported the incident.

North Weald Airfield offers trial flight experiences with certified instructors, including 30-minute and one-hour sessions.
